In the afternoon of November 6, Professor Wang Lifei, PhD supervisor of the School of Advanced Translation of Beijing Language and Culture University, was invited to give a lecture on “Promoting the construction of first-class business English majors and special disciplines with the guidance of the National Standards and the construction of New Liberal Arts” to students and teachers of the College of Foreign Languages. Vice Dean He Shaobin presided over the lecture, which was attended by some teachers and graduate students from all grades. The lecture was held through Tencent Conference.
During the lecture, Prof. Wang interpreted the “Mid- and High-end Employment Talent Data Report for the First Half of 2020”, analyzed the employment direction of English talents, and pointed out that with the continuous highlighting of the multiple values of foreign languages, the development prospect of business English is broad, and there is an urgent need to cultivate more business English composite talents.
He also pointed out that Business English is a typical new liberal art major. The academic construction should aim at new features, new standards, and new directions, constantly improve the connotation of the discipline, and strengthen the construction of the faculty. At the same time, he emphasized that each school should fully justify the professional characteristics, reasonably choose the professional direction, highlight the advantages of our school, and cultivate the composite talents urgently needed by society.
Through the lecture, students clearly realized the construction system and future development direction of the business English course, and were also encouraged to dabble in all aspects of knowledge, enhance humanities and general knowledge, and be the comprehensively applied talents needed by society in the future.
