• Experience Sharing of Chinese Academic Translation and Publishing Projects of National Social Science Fund of China

    On November 24, 2021, from 14:00 to 16:00, the College of Foreign Languages held an academic lecture entitled “National Social Science Fund for Chinese Academic Translation Projects and Translation and Publishing Experience Sharing” in Room 317, with Professor Zhu Lin, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Huaqiao University. Due to the epidemic, the conference was held in the form of a Tencent conference, and the students and teachers exchanged ideas online and offline.

    The Chinese Academic Foreign Translation Project, as one of the projects of the National Social Science Fund, was established in 2010. The project mainly finances academic masterpieces that represent Chinese academic standards, embody the essence of Chinese culture and reflect the frontier of Chinese academia, and are published in foreign authoritative publishing institutions in foreign languages and enter the mainstream distribution and dissemination channels abroad.



    Professor Zhu Lin has a rich academic experience and has been selected as one of the high-level talents in Quanzhou City and Fujian Province. She has been a postdoctoral researcher at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and the University of Macau, and a visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge. Her main research interests are related to translation theory and practice, cognitive translation research, literary translation, translation technology, and translation teaching. She has presided over and completed the Chinese Academic Translation Project of the National Social Science Fund, the Provincial Social Science Fund, and the High-level Talent Project of Overseas Chinese University, etc. She is currently presiding over a key project of the National Social Science Fund. She has published more than 30 papers in international A&HCI and SSCI journals such as Perspectives, Neohelicon, LAN-TTS, and domestic CSSCI journals and core journals such as China Translation and Foreign Languages, and has published several translations and monographs in famous academic publishers (such as Peter Lang, Routledge, etc.) at home and abroad.

    In this lecture, Professor Zhu Lin shared her experience in applying for the Chinese Academic Translation Project of the National Social Science Fund and some insights into the process of translation and publication of the project. The lecture started from six aspects: (1) project purpose and funding scope; (2) declaration conditions, methods, and instructions for submission of materials; (3) key points for writing project applications; (4) ideas and strategies for foreign translation process; (5) considerations for foreign publication; and (6) personal insights and suggestions. She also discussed the changes in the requirements for Chinese academic foreign translation applications from 2017-2021 in conjunction. After the lecture, Prof. Zhu Lin answered questions from our faculty in detail, explaining the considerations and time points for topic selection, specific steps for contacting Chinese and foreign publishers, and specific strategies for translating academic monographs when applying for academic foreign translation projects.

    The lecture provided specific ideas and methods for our faculty members to apply for Chinese academic foreign translation, a national research project, which will help continue to promote the application of our national high-level research projects in the future.
