On the morning of November 23, Professor Jin Yan, a professor and doctoral supervisor from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, was invited to give a lecture entitled “The role of examination rules in the development and use of language tests” at 326 Foreign Language Building. The lecture was hosted by Zhang Yan, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages, and some teachers and students of the School listened to the lecture.
First, Professor Jin Yan introduced the purpose of various types of tests, the ability of students to be examined, the combination and presentation of test tasks, and how to design test tasks from three aspects: high-stakes large-scale tests, classroom tests, and test validity. Afterward, she shared the future research directions of language testing, emphasizing the moral ethics of language testing and the specific formulation of test specifications in the Internet information era. Finally, she made some guiding suggestions based on the data of Grade 4 and 6 results of our school.
The lecture helped teachers and students gain an in-depth understanding of the importance of the test rules to test validity arguments and improve the role of test redirection, and guided teachers to think about how to reasonably arrange classroom tests in future classroom teaching to play an important role in promoting students’ English proficiency.
