On November 20, 2021, the “Expert Meeting on the Development of Foreign Language Majors and Disciplines in Shanghai Maritime University” was held in the Administration Building of Gangwan Campus of Shanghai Maritime University.
Professor Chamin Jian, member of the 8th Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and Vice President of Shanghai International Studies University, Professor Gao Yongwei, member of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and Dean of the School of Foreign Languages and Literature of Fudan University, Professor Peng Qinglong, member of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and member of the English Language Instruction Committee and Distinguished Professor of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and other experts from outside the university were invited to participate in the validation. Professor Feng Daolun, Director of Science and Technology Department of Shanghai Maritime University, Huang Shunquan, Director of Academic Affairs Department of Shanghai Maritime University, Yang Bin, Dean of Graduate School of Shanghai Maritime University, Professor Wang Dawei, former Dean of College of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Maritime University, and leaders and professors of College of Foreign Languages were present.
The experts firstly made a detailed demonstration and guidance for the declaration of the National Social Science Program of the College of Foreign Languages in 2022, and then made a demonstration for the joint development of foreign language disciplines and majors of the university. And the cultivation and declaration of the first-level doctoral program “Foreign Languages and Literature” were discussed, especially the advantages and disadvantages of the college's declaration of the first-level doctoral program were frankly analyzed and exchanged, pointing out that we should vigorously introduce senior talents of literature and regional and country-specific in the main direction of the disciplined framework of “Foreign Languages and Literature”.
The meeting invited experts in the field of foreign language and literature, as well as school and functional department leaders, to discuss the path and implementation plan for the development of foreign language and literature majors and disciplines, to help the university to build a global influence in the level of foreign language and literature personnel training and discipline construction. It laid a solid foundation for the university to achieve the goal of becoming a world-class maritime university with global influence.
