Lin Yu, a Japanese major of Class 172 in the College of Foreign Languages, won the second prize in the 15th Chinese Student Japanese Composition Contest, the best result of its kind in the university. Mao He Li and Guan Xiuyi of the Department of Japanese Language won the Outstanding Instructor Award.
The Japanese Composition Contest for Chinese University Students was organized by the Japan-China Cultural Exchange Institute and the Embassy of Japan in China, with the support of the Toshiba International Exchange Foundation and the China-Japan Cultural Exchange Center. A total of 80 students from various colleges submitted their intentions to participate in the contest. After several stages, including pre-contest counseling, preliminary draft submission, preliminary draft screening, preliminary draft counseling, final draft submission, and final draft award evaluation.
Lin Yu's essay 桜の夢 12年後の桜の夢 (Dream of cherry blossoms 12 years later) won the second prize and was published by the Japan Overseas Newspaper. Lin Yu was also invited to attend the award ceremony held at the Japanese Embassy in Beijing in December 2019. Representatives from various parties, including Mr. Yu Yokai, the Japanese Ambassador to China, and Mr. Duan Yuezhong, Editor-in-Chief of the Overseas Chinese Press, delivered speeches looking forward to the future of continued friendly relations between China and Japan.
By participating in this competition, our students not only practiced their ability to think and write in Japanese, but also took this opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and deepen their cross-cultural understanding.
