The COVID-19 touched the hearts of people all over the country, and many students from the School of Foreign Languages have contributed their efforts in the prevention and control of the pandemic around the world by contributing people or donating money and materials.
Liu Zhen, a 2019 graduate student of International Chinese Language Education, has been engaged in Chinese language education in Thailand and Cambodia for ten years before enrolling in the program, and has served as the Chinese leader of Confucius Institutes in several universities, and won the Cambodian National Contribution Award issued by Prime Minister Hun Sen of the Cambodian government and the Global Confucius Institute Advanced Individual issued by Confucius Institute Headquarters. He was also awarded the Advanced Individual of Confucius Institutes Worldwide by Confucius Institute Headquarters. After the pandemic, more than ten local chambers of commerce organizations such as Zhejiang, Wenzhou, Jiangsu, Shanxi, etc. wanted to buy protective materials such as masks from Thailand and donate them to the front line of pandemic prevention work everywhere, but there were problems such as language barrier and insufficient supply in liaising with Thai manufacturers. After Liu Zhen learned about it, he played his advantage of proficiency in Thai language and assisted local chambers of commerce to communicate with Thai suppliers in a pro bono manner, coordinating both sides to negotiate the terms of purchase contracts and distribution details, and contacting his own network resources in Thailand to use their purchasing channels to raise as much material as possible. According to preliminary statistics, with the efforts of many parties, 5 million masks will be purchased to help fight NCCP around the world.
During the winter break, 2019 graduate student of foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, Kuang Zhongmin, volunteered to join the battle in her home community and became an pandemic prevention and control volunteer to help the community carry out the pandemic prevention and control work. The student went to the nearby communities to promote the knowledge of pandemic protection, while discouraging residents from going out, not going out less, not stringing doors, not paying New Year's visits, reminding people to wear masks when they go out, to contribute to the pandemic prevention work, and to convey the voice of the Party and the government to thousands of households. Guo Jingdi, a 2019 graduate student in foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, also signed up to work as a local community pandemic prevention and control volunteer, and was placed on duty by the community party organization.
Qi Kegu, a student in English 191 whose family is in Wuhan, brought his writing skills to bear after the outbreak, assisting the head nurse of a hospital to compile a diary of the frontline fight against the pandemic and publish it publicly in a newspaper, and serving as a correspondent for a media outlet to convey the frontline situation of the pandemic and the positive energy of the whole nation against the pandemic.
In addition, students from the School of Foreign Languages also participated in the pandemic prevention and control work by donating materials and donations.
