To celebrate the 110th anniversary of Shanghai Maritime University, the School of Foreign Languages held a sharing session with Liu Jie alumni in the afternoon of October 19 in the COSCO Lecture Hall as one of the series of activities of the School of Foreign Languages Foreign Language+ classroom. Mr. Liu Jie, an alumnus of English Major Class of '86 and Chairman of Global Express Logistics Group, gave a speech. He Li, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the university, Zhu Yaobin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Foreign Languages, and some alumni representatives from the logistics industry attended. Qian Minfang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the College, presided over the lecture, and representatives of students from all grades of the College attended.
In her speech, Deputy Secretary He Li, the school leader, warmly welcomed the arrival of Liu Jie alumni and his Global Jet Group delegation, briefly introduced Liu Jie alumni's situation, and expressed appreciation and gratitude for his contribution to the development and construction of the school. Deputy Secretary He Li fully affirmed the holding of Rujing Academy and Foreign Language+ class, and also expressed her good wishes for the alumni and their career development.
During the sharing, Mr. Liu Jie gave a speech on the theme of Born to Solve Logistics Problems - The Mission of Global Rapid Transit. He firstly shared with the students his career experience after graduation - from quitting his job as a teacher at Qingdao Ocean Shipping Academy, to working and studying at Evergreen Line for 8 years, to working as a partner of a foreign company OEC, and finally to founding Global Express Logistics Group with his team. The experience and understanding brought a lot of inspiration and insight to the students. Liu Jie alumnus said with emotion that as a Haitian, the source of motivation on the way forward is the inspiration of parents, teachers and students of his alma mater. He encouraged the students to explore their inner strength, follow their inner guidance, and become the master of their own destiny, the leader of happiness, and the practitioner of down-to-earth through thinking and learning.
In the roundtable exchange session, Liu Jie alumni exchanged ideas with student representatives on numerous topics of college students' career development. The students expressed their full harvest after listening to Liu Jie's speech, and also raised their own confusion and problems in their growth. Alumni Liu Jie emphasized the importance of team and vision in entrepreneurship, and explained his understanding of mission and the importance of being sensitive to the external environment. He encouraged students to develop their ability of expression, execution and the ability to cope with and handle crises, to exercise a strong heart and to solve all problems ultimately relying on one's inner strength.
The sharing session benefited the students by giving them a concrete understanding of the characteristics and trends of the logistics industry through the alumni's experiences in practice and entrepreneurship; it also enlightened them to think more deeply about their future development, learn from alumnus Liu Jie, strengthen themselves, keep pursuing their mission and take responsibility in a practical way.
