On May 18, 2019, the preliminaries of the 14th Chinese National Japanese Speech Contest in East China, jointly sponsored by China Education Association for International Exchange, Japan Chinese Professors' Conference and Nihon Keizai Shimbun, and hosted by the College of Oriental Languages of Zhejiang Gongshang University, were held at Zhejiang Gongshang University. Thirty-one contestants from 31 universities in four provinces in East China, including Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Jiangxi, competed on the same stage.
The preliminaries in East China were divided into two parts: in the morning, the contestants focused on the theme of I and the Olympic Spirit ---- Tokyo 2020, Beijing 2022 or The Year of China-Japan Youth Exchange Promotion ---- My Suggestions. In the afternoon, the contestants drew lots to determine the topic and gave a three-minute impromptu speech on the spot.
Ms. Noriko Horiguchi, a foreign teacher of the Japanese Department, was in charge of the main guidance and Ms. Jin Ping led the team. First of all, K.K. Xie prepared his speech carefully based on his personal experience of participating in Sino-Japanese cultural exchange activities, and won the qualification of the formal competition with his accurate pronunciation and fluent expression among more than 50 videos of the preliminary examination. During the formal competition, in the face of strong opponents, K.K. Xie still behaved very calmly, and her extremely infectious and wonderful speech was well received and finally won the Excellent Award.
Through the competition, we gained valuable experience, and also had a good discussion and learning with the sister institutions, bringing back useful information and laying a foundation for the preparation of future competitions.
