On November 16, 2018, the final of the New World Cup Shanghai Student Japanese Dubbing Competition, which was organized by the Shanghai Branch of the Chinese Association of Japanese Language Teaching and Research, the Shanghai Private Universities Japanese Language Collaborative Group and organized by New World Education Group, was held at the South Xinya Hotel, and 30 groups of players from 30 universities in Shanghai competed fiercely. The Zian Five team, consisting of five people, including Yu Wenjie from Finance and Management 152, Wang Shuhuan from Telecommunication 151, Zhang Chongqi from Finance 152, Yuan Runyu from Air China 183 and Xu Zixi from Air China 185, won the third prize.
As a preliminaries of this competition, the Japanese dubbing competition of Shanghai Maritime University was held on November 8, 2018 in Bonjian Hall, hosted by the school's club Japanese Corner. A total of 16 groups participated in the competition. The Zian Five stood out from them and represented the university in the final.
In the final round, in the face of the excellent performance of many students from various universities majoring in Japanese, the Zian Five played steadily, full of emotion, with pure Japanese voice, and their expressive and passionate interpretation won the warm applause of the audience on the spot. They won the third prize (3 third prizes, 2 second prizes and 1 first prize).
These five non-Japanese students came together because of dubbing. Although they have different experiences, what they share is their interest in language. Yu Wenjie, Zhang Chongqi and Wang Shuhuan are long-time members of the school's MIX dubbing club. Yu Wenjie and Wang Shuhuan have been interested in Japanese since junior high school, and have accumulated more Japanese vocabulary and grammar since they entered college, and passed the N2 and N1 exams with high scores respectively. Although Chongqi Zhang is still at the introductory stage of Japanese language learning, he is good at imitating and has been able to summarize the Japanese pronunciation pattern and achieve relatively standard pronunciation. Xu Zixi and Yuan Runyu, freshmen who are at the introductory stage, also dared to try, and their Japanese expression ability has improved a lot through this competition. The five of them prepared well for this competition. From familiarizing themselves with the lines, imitating and correcting their voice intonation, to refining their emotions, they put a lot of effort into it.
All five of them are members of the Japanese Corner. Since the beginning of this semester, the Japanese Corner has been held regularly on Wednesdays with a theme each week, and two Japanese teachers, Ms. Hideki Seki and Ms. Noriko Horiguchi, have been giving lectures and guidance to the students. Ms. Zhuang Yan, the instructor of the Japanese Language Corner, did a lot of organizing and coordinating work, so that the work of the Japanese Language Corner was carried out in an orderly manner.
The dubbing contest enriched the form of foreign language learning and stimulated students' enthusiasm for learning foreign languages. Through the contest, students also showed their self-expression and the spirit of cooperation and positive attitude of the contemporary student team.
